Saturday, May 13th, we departed Livingston Montana for Sturgis SD. As normal, when facing a long drive, I had trouble sleeping so we were up early. Departing at 5:00 am, we filled up our coffee and hit the road. Heading out on I-90, we had thought of stopping in Billings for breakfast but did not spot anything near the exits.
Our Scenic for the day was the Little Bighorn Battlefield Memorial and we arrived just before 8:00 am. They opened at 8 so we proceeded in and checked in at the Visitor Center. After looking around a bit, we watched a video about the park and the battle. After picking up a couple souvenirs, we then drove the battle road and visited the monuments. It was a solemn drive where so many died that day.
We had not had breakfast yet and as we exited he park, Lyn spotted the Custer Battlefield Trading Post and Cafe. We stopped it and they served breakfast so we stayed to eat. It was a really cute place and the food was good! It was operated by all Native Americans, and actually on the Crow Reservation.
Our server asked where we were headed and mentioned Rte 212 as a nice scenic route that would also shave some time off our route. You know we like getting off the Interstate so of course we took it, very nice route for sure. It took us almost right in to Sturgis!
This was our destination for the day and we stumbled on a Best Western Motel that was perfect and priced right!
