Early October 30th, a Friday, I received the dreaded call about a loved one. My sister Linda called with the news that my brother Tom passed during the night, apparently in his sleep. Tom was 2 years younger than me, only 65 when he passed. My other brother, Mike was 4 years my junior and passed away in 2007.
Here are a few pictures of Tom…
We packed up Saturday and hit the road Sunday for Michigan. We made it just North of Cincinnati and stopped for the night. On the road early Monday, we arrived in Detroit about 11:00am and went over to visit with Tom’s wife Louise. His daughter Sara was already there (Sara’s husband Nate arrived later that evening) After visiting for a bit, we went and checked into our room. Drove back to Louise’s later and met Sharon & Rick (my daughter) and Linda (my sister) and we all visited and ordered in Chinese food…
Tuesday was the visitation, 1-2 for family and then 2pm to 9pm for others. We met up with Sharon & Rick (and the kids), Joe & AJ and Linda for a meal at noon and then headed over to the funeral home. Wow, a long day but so busy… saw friends I worked with for over 21 years, some I had not seen in 25 years, cousins I had not seen for even longer. The day actually passed quickly. Had a meal with Sharon and Rick afterwords.
Wednesday was the funeral, the service was very nice and so many stories shared of Tom. It was especially hard for the grand-kids. A luncheon followed and then a private burial for the family at the cemetery. Lyn and I went and drove around the old neighborhood before heading back to the room.
Thursday, Lyn and I went and had lunch, then stopped by our friends (David) store for a visit. That evening, we had dinner with Sharon & Rick, Linda and Neil (along with Stephanie, Jessica, Donald and Grace. Very nice gathering before heading home.
Heading out early Friday, we made it to Rocky Top TN, then drove in the rest of the way Saturday. There was a lot of rain on the trip home.
Below is Tom’s Obituary, he will be missed my so many!
